If I was going to get a smaller engine I would get that ktm 250 that was loaded on cl. I really want a 450 2004-2007 for 4 grand.

That's a 300 2 stroke we are talking about and should hang if not eat up a 450 in many conditions!

Yeah, 450 would be the way to go. I can't imagine if I could have had my 450 road legal. That thing was awesome on the street. And I can only see a 300 smoker being better than the 450 in the woods only. I could see a 2-stroke being a total inconvenience on the road. I am going back to a 4-stroke when the opportunity presents itself.

I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for. If I had a dual sport like the KTM or the GG I would only use it for stuff like riding to actual riding spots, without having to load up.  For example short trips on the road to Hogback.  For that either would probably be fine.  For long highway trips and stuff, none of the road legal Euro bikes are really good.  But for just going back and forth to work on backroads they would probaly also be OK.  Just keep a can of pre-mixed gas handy and make sure your bike is alway full. :)

Any bike that is good in the trails, is not going to be very good on the street and vice versa.  It's a give and take.  All you can do is make the bike good in whatever your going to do the most, and deal with it the rest of the time.  Any dirt bike that I've owned, 4-stroke or 2-stroke, are not very fun on the street.  The 2-stokes being worse mostly due to the vibration.

It's scary on a big dual sport even!  On a rocket it's less scary.  You just kick down a gear or two, and twist the grip.  Pretty soon you're 30 MPH faster than you were half a second before and the semi is in the rear view.

ECEA.org has a nice classified section.  Most of the bikes are in PA or NJ though.

I found another 450 that has the street kit on it. Waiting for pics other than the typical cl cell phone pic. It's another 4 hr drive to go see it.
