the v6 is the same one as our sienna has. that effer picks up in a  hurry and passes people like a champion, hauling a trailer even. its the most beastly minivan i have ever driven thats for sure. i think the new one has like 265- 280 hp or some such crazy nonsense. and still get like 26 mpg!

Yes clearly you need a minivan with one child.  :)

Next door neighboor has three kids....had a mini-van and went to a Rav4.  Three months latter the rav 4 was gone and a new min-van in it's place.

A Rav 4 just doesn't have the space like a mini-van.

I've owned a min-van since 1993.  I've got a 2007 T&C min-van right now.  Wish gas mileage was a bit better, but that's my only complaint.

For all around do it all, you can't beat a mini-van.

Jim.

I had a mini van years before I even considered getting married let alone having a child!  Mini vans rock.

Doesn't he just throw his bike on his shoulders and run to the track?

Back on topic, I'm working on narrowing this list a bit now that I am done witht he craziness of replacing our other car.

Adding some criteria here: no compacts, I think they will be uncomfortable for my freakishly long legs.

Mid size cars = BORING, with the exception of maybe an Altima or Jetta.  Camry is a mom's car (and boring to drive) and Fusion makes me sleepy just looking at it.

I'm almost thinking small suv or a wagon of some type.  They are tricky though - most used Escapes, for example are 4wd and V6, and only get 17 city/24 highway which isn't great.

Fall 2010, I was looking for a car and really wanted a small and sporty wagon.  An Audi A4 Turbo wagon was at the top of my list, but a friend who owns an Audi repair shop told me not to buy an Audi unless I wanted to give him a lot of money.  I also looked at:

- Ford Focus Wagon:  cheap interior plastics and terrible rear seat room
- Subura Legacy Wagon:  noisy interior, poor MPG, and everyone thinks you are a lesbian from Vermont
- Volvo Wagon:  could incurr expensive maintenance costs and the Vermont thing again
- BMW:  nice, but expensive purchase price, and the cargo area is small

I finally gave up and ended up with a 2009 Saturn Aura.

I have seen a few Jetta wagons out there, and they aren't very expensive.

I talked to two jetta owners, one who has owned Jettas since 2000, and he said they have done him pretty well.  he did say that he has always had manuals though.

Another friends' wife has an 07 Jetta Wolfsburg and she said it was good.  Her estimate of normal maintenance costs wasn't bad either.

Also looking at a few Escapes but I need to drive one.  We have family members that have them so I can probably do it that way.
