GoPro

Anyone have a GoPro?  And if so, was it worth getting?

I have a $50 off coupon for RM ATV and that makes it $129.99 with shipping included.  Almost worth trying for that price.

I know I professed the mini cam shipped from China solution in the fall but I coudln't get that to mount properly.

Jim's got a regular one and a hd one. I would really like the hd one. They have a 3d one now too, but it looks heavy.

I have the HD version - it is great.  I wouldn't get the standard version because the HD version has a built in battery and the sound is way better along with the picture (obviously).

I think Jim said the lower resolution on the hd one looked better than the higher one too.

I didn't think there'd be that big of a difference.  Even the standard one that is for sale now does 720p, and I think 960p as well.  Those are both technically HD resolutions.  The hero hd does 1080p, but I would probably use the lower res anyway.  1080p requires crazy amounts of data to upload/download.

I'd love to have it for something like a trail lap at Majestic, and also for some moto days like we are doing at Savannah.

I've got the1080.  It's got a awesome picture.  I've never tried it at the lower resolutions.   For best results you need class 4 sd cards or better.  It has to do with how fast the cards accept data.  I just put all the videos on a external hard drive.

The RM price includes a 4 GB card, which looks like it'll be good for just over an hour if my calculations are right.  That seems like plenty of time.

My wife bought me the standard GoPro awhile ago, and I really like it.

I may have to pop for it then.  I'll just wait to get a new phone for a few weeks and buy this instead. :)

These things have come a long way.

The last "helmet cam" I had was an Archos with a remote cam mount.  I bought that for $300, used, and it required a backpack to carry it since the recorder was completely separate.  Kind of ridiculous compared to the GoPro.

The 3d GoPro requires two cameras, which is probably why it's so big.  Pretty neat idea but not entirely useful yet.

In 1080P mode the field of view is 127 degrees, where it is 170 degrees in all other modes.  I run mine in setting 4 (1280x960 30fps) most the time so the video looks less shaky and camera aim isn't as critical.  I have both versions and while the original SD is nice, the HD is worth the extra loot i think.

I just picked up the new hero 2. I also found an old standard go pro last year that has a broken case. I'm gonna pick up a new case so I can mount that one maybe backwards or maybe let someone else wear one on one of our group rides. Anyone have a bunch of videos saved on their pc? Just wondering how much space they take up. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a 1T external hard drive?
I haven't played around with windows movie maker yet. Is there a way to make the colors more vivid? The go pro commercials are misleading. There is no way it records that sharp.

It all depends on how big your hard drive is.  I have tons of video from about the last 5 years, and haven't gone for an external drive yet.  I think the one in my home computer is 320 GB and it's plenty.

An external hard drive would solve your space concerns though.  Especially a 1 TB one.  that should be able to store thousands of hours of video.

Chris might be looking to start his POV porn video company with the GoHo, that would require the extra HD space.
