wanted-numberplate
« on: June 06, 2011, 09:09:06 AM »
does anyone have a numberplate kicking around they dont want, that may fit my CRF or i can modify to fit it? reason being i want to do more MX races and harescrambles and last year i hopped a log into a tree at hogback and broke my headlight plate. i dont want that to happen again, since it doesnt need to be there on a race in the day. i plan on putting a peice of red tape over my tail light as well. sort of so it looks more like a MX bike at the races than a trail bike. i was just going to put the headlight on a switch but its like 100 bucks if i break that than just a numberplate.

It is much cooler to have a trail bike and do an mx race then to try and look like every other goon.  Can you buy a headlight cover like Oprah has on the ktm!  If not I am guessing I have an extra number plate you might need to cut to make it fit but I am sure it would work.  Oh I might even have one with a number 69 on it already for you!  I'll try and remember to see what I have tonight

i guess i can see your point about being different on the track. the difference is im a beginner on the track and not very fast  so i think that dumbs down my cool factor! an expert hauling ass on a trailbike would be cool. i could probobly do without #69 though. i think i saw at least four of those yesterday!  ;D i am going to get a number on there soon though. i dont know if they make a headlight cover, i havent seen one yet but maybe its out there. what i broke was the plastic brackets that hold the shroud on. i epoxied them but another blow will disintegrate them for sure.

ah you got me there. good memory! yes i was, but for some reason i want numbers now. i would not want to be the only person out there without numbers either. id have to figure out how to get them on the plastics and the trail passes as well. alan suggested just electrical tape for temp ones.

Yeah if you want to race MX you have to have the number plates so that they can read your number to score you.  so you might as well put #s on there.

You can have a number on your headlight I am pretty sure.

If you need number suggestions, lik I said yesterday:
Kid's b-day
Anniversary
Your b-day
Wife's b-day
69
666
etc.

anniversary would be  609, my birthday would be 830, wife is 824. i will have two kids so i dont want to make one jelous so i cant do that. can i be 00 or 000?  how about 420?  ;D none of those numbers sound very good but im sure ill think of one. maybe the day i bought the bike. or 11, when i first rode. alot of my stickers have actually been coming off washing lately anyway and if i get 4" numbers i think ill still have room for my trail passes.

I like 609, that is pretty unique and you likely won't conflict with someone else with that one.

You could do something I would do.  Take the two kids b-days, add them together, and then average them out and make that your number. So if the oldest's b-day is 5-10 and the youngest is 7-28 do this:
510+728 = 1238 , then 1238/2 = 619 and there's your number. :)

Of course this fucks up if one of them has a birthday that is in October-November becuase it could give you a four digit number.

(Yes, my brain does weird things sometimes..).

I always thought what the Honda Factory Riders did for daytime desert races was cool:  head light shell with the light replaced by a riveted on screen.

so i took out the entire baffle of the trail muffler today to see if it sounded more like a CRF-R bike that way. after i could hear again i put the baffle back in and decided i would probobly never try that again.

Yeah my 650 is loud like that too...  LOL  screw the neighbors.  Heres an optional solution (I like it cuz it cool 8))  Put the number over the headlight.  It'll be like the batman symbol against the clouds. haha  (at night of course)
