personally i like the natural terrain tracks with smaller jumps, lots of elevation change, and gnarly off cambers. on those tracks riders just get nasty head shake, cross rut , fly off the track, and plow into a tree...

We talking sx or mx here.  I was mostly talking sx. Outdoors places like dilla with rocks and elevatiom are awesome. Much like most the gp tracks and less and less us tracks.  Mx tracks have changed a great deal in a decade.

I honestly don't think it much matters with the track.  These riders are just pushing it.  They are jumping things that the track designers didn't even consider being jumped.  They flat out over ride the track.

The guys are hauling ass. If something happens, there's a chance it could be hungry.

I was just thinking of other sports, such as open wheel racing (ie. Indy cars), which has managed to move forward retaining most of the excitement, and yet has made it much safer for the racers at the same time.

Granted any sport where your simply hanging on by your hands is going to be dangerous, but they could make the tracks a bit more technical and get the speeds down.  For example, that whoops section where Reed crashed doesn't need to be that long.

Heck these guys are the pros , have the best equipment and setups, and with regularity are ending up with injuries that will follow them for the rest of their life.

Racing to me is not simply who can go the fastest, but someone who shows skill and smarts in getting the job done.  Just look at the difference between Stewart and Villopoto.   One can simply go fast, the other knows how to race.

Skills and smarts are what leads to a long, successful, profitable career.  K-Dub is 34 and in his 19th pro season!  And Reed just turned 30.  I think that Dungey is on that track as well.

I agree with Jake, though, that it doesn't matter how safe they make the tracks.  These guys are going to push every little bit to get more and more and go faster.  Once they start doing that, all bets are off.

yeah that is what i was getting at. it doesn't matter what track they have, these guys are pushing it as hard ad they can. its what makes dirtbike racing what it is. its why we all look down on other sports.

if the whoop section was shorter someone would try to seat bounce the whole section. reed got hurt being awesome.

So Atlanta tonight..... I don't know as if it will be really exciting for the win in the 450 class.  Odds are RV checks out.  There will be some good racing though for 2-5th I'm thinking.  Cole Seeley is filling in for Canard on the factory Honda, and in the past he has been very impressive on a 450.  Maybe he can pull off a top 5??  I think Barcia will come away with another win in the lites.  Hopefully Darren Durham has another good run.  Great to see him doing well!  Roczen is fast, but he's sort of like Bubba with his crashing.  He's also foreign so double wammy, and I just can't root for him.  If Bogle and little Stewie don't get into a slap fest again they should be right up there also.  Should be some good racing.

The Dung is out for Daytona due to a broken collar bone. Looks like they can pretty much write the check for RV for his title bonus.

dungey was riding last week with that injury..pretty crazy.

2 ways this season could end up being good.

1) dungey comes back after a couple weeks and battlesstewart for 2nd overall

2) Stewart realizes with two of his main competitors injured he has a better chance of actually doing well, and rides in is old awesome manner

Ways it could suck

1) villopoto gets hurt too, and stewart bumbles his way to a championship.

WOW  what a crap fest Daytona was.  However I would definitely ride that stuff if I had someone to take care of my bike afterwards like those guys do.

Good to hear CR in the booth.  He is at least as good as Ricky, Jeff, and defintely 1000000000 times better than Ralph.

Lousy night for Kiniry which is too bad since he has been doing very well lately.

Villopoto had an EPIC start that could be the funniest moment all year, aside from Malcolm getting punched anyway.  And, always good to see #14 up on the box even as he is almost twice the age of some of the youngest competitors..

My effing DVR stopped recording at about the drop of the gate for the 450's  I didnt see snit.  I did get a kick out of RC's helmet cam from when he was riding the track with the other guys during practice.  Hasnt been mainstream in how long and the guy still flies!

I usually set mine to go an hour late that way it catches everything.  They were running late, I'm guessing due to the crap conditions.
