headlight
« on: January 14, 2012, 11:44:31 AM »
after chris made me realize how pathetic my stock headlight is, even with the piaa bulb, and since the housing is broken yet again this year im thinking of getting this LED one that i saw in dirt rider. http://www.polisport.com/motorbikes/produtos.php?ID=544
anyone know anything about it or know of anyone who has tried it yet? i think its brand new. it plugs right into the stock harness and is LED, so it says it draws les energy than a 35 watt bulb and looks brighter. its price tag is a little steeper than the trail tech at 150, 110 on rocky mountain but looks like i can run it on my stock stator with no problems.
should i go for it?

Looks like a good option I need a light for my bike also. I dont think it has a hi/low beam and my other concern is what if the bulb does blow? Where can you get another?

I love my head light. You can even convert it to hid. You will need the upgraded wire harness and stator though.

Looks good, and should work well.

I ended up with a Trail Tech X2 for my bike.  You might want to look into that too.  About $90, and the ones you get on RM have the wiring harnesses already in place so it's just a plug and play install.

I'm wondering if the LED is brighter then the x2.  I'm stuck between the 2 of them.  I like yours Chris but I'm poor folk and don't have that deep of a pocket book!

If it runs on the oem harness and stator, it won't be bright enough.

When i rode chris ktm the light is bright as a car but i dont want to pay 500 dollars for one. I still feel bad for cracking the housing by kicking up a stone but it was an accident. The leds say super long life and at 110 on rocky mountain thats not bad. My concern with the trail tech would be voltage on my bike. The leds use less watts so it should be just fine i would think. There is a video that shows how bright it is and it looks super bright white

I have the X2 (non hid) and it works fine.  I'm pretty sure my stator puts out way less than yours.

The light on my bike is mostly for decoration, since it doesn't really light up worth dick, and can't support teh high beam.

Thats the thing, i want it to be bright and if my stator wont run the high beam there is no point. I dont think it has more than a 60 watt stator, i cant remember. I want as bright as i can get as i do real night rides now and again.

Anyone have experience with Hidsrus?

seem pretty cheap

No, but you need to be careful with anything over 35W.  As I have witnessed higher wattage bulbs actually melting stock KTM plastic lenses.

Don't worry about blowing a led out. Most have roughly 25,000 hr life expectancies. I highly doubt you'll ever run one that long. Im currently looking into my own lighting system to race the perry mtn 24 hr challenge in Alabama with.

Ok looks like I'm going to try this option.  I have found a few good reviews online.
