Tug Hill area
« on: February 19, 2012, 12:56:32 AM »
I wouldn't mind spending a weekend up here riding. $80 permit stings a little though....
I can't find if bikes are allowed. I think it is.

Your bike is a ds no trail pass needed. The riding is 90% or more dirt roads.  Adam is our forum expert on the area I am sure he will chime in.  I hope to do a ride weekend up in the area this summer also, hopefully with Adam.

I'm going to probably do the snirt run this year up there. It will be more fun with a few bikes!

My 200 is already ny state plated. The amount of private land you touch is minimal. If your bike is not a ds the pass is a must.  I purchased the pass this past year and road around one weekend on dusty roads.  The riding adam has by his camp looks much better and does not have any pass.

Is there a speed limit on those dirt roads? Adams camp is awesome!! There just isnt a large amount of known trail to support a weekend of heavy riding. However there is also heavy drinking to counter that problem haha. I wonder if it would be feasible to connect this to Adam's trails to make it a full weekend of riding.

Yes the trail system all connects. The road the pine tree is on is part if the lewis county trail system. The pine tree is down the road from adams place.

I wonder what the cops will think if I come around a turn 90 mph...

You have to ride within reason. Cops are few and far between so take your chances when you want! Many more cops around up there during the winter.

There are at least 200 miles or more of trail within 20 miles of my door that i know of that are not even on the map. Alot of what i showed you that weekend was what i knew close and not connected to our neighbors properties. Some of them let me ride thier stuff and on occasion ive ridden what they have when they are not there or through it to more state lands. Alot of the dirt roads are what is needed to go to each area of trails. We didnt even go to the tug that weekend becuase i havent explored it much yet. That was just brantingham. For a dual sport you will still need the trail pass for the reforestation property trails but for a weekend up there i wouldnt bother. Nobody has ever checked for mine. The benefitmof ds is you can ride paved to even more trails that arent legally atv connected yet. This summer i would love to have a group ride up there. Camp sleeps 10 so plenty of room. I will be up there alot this year, and all on dirteaters that i have met are welcome. Ill be posting when im planning a ride weekend up there.

Also first permit only costs 60 for the year. 40 plus join a club up there. And 90 percent of it goes to trail maintenance or making new ones. But again, dont worry about the pass. Also have only seen a cop up there 2 times in 30 years. Usually only come way out there if called.

I'm actually surprised nobody called the cops after ripping up and down the road wide open all day. I scared that old guy pretty good.

Bad for business to call the police up there not much money and the wheelers and bikes bring money in the slow summer months.

Most of them are used to it. My brother and i  have been ripping up and down those roads and that particular corner since 1992. My dads buddies since the 70s. Ive  never been able to take that turn at the speed you did though. Takes an A rider to do that. Ill have to make sure to put my 14 sprocket back on for those high speed runs if im ever going to hope to keep anywhere behind your ktm. Or finally fix my 6 speed 2 stroke!
